Wife stabs husband to death over N70

Mrs Tina Okoh, has told Atani Magistrates’ Court 2, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State that she killed her husband over disagreement of N70.

Tina, who was arraigned before Chief Magistrate G. C. Nwabachili, said she stabbed her husband, Maduabuchi Okoh, with a knife while fighting because he gave her only N70 to feed herself and her two children for two days.
Tina, who hails from Awgwu in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, said that fight ensued between her and her late husband when she went to him to ask for more money.
According to her, while they were fighting, he held her under his armpit and as she was struggling to free herself, she stumbled on a knife in the kitchen and used it to stab him. Tina’s counsel, Tony Ede, told the court that the case of his client was pathetic.
He said that her husband ought not to have given his family N70 to feed for two days, considering the high cost of living in the country.
Adjourning the matter, Nwabachili blamed Mrs Okoh on one part and on the other, her Catholic Church and the residents of No. 1, Madueke Street, Iyiowa Odekpe where the incident occurred for allowing the fight to degenerate to the level that it claimed somebody’s life.
He, therefore, remanded her in the prison custody while transferring the matter to the office of the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.
The magistrate adjourned the case till March 3, 2015 for further hearing.
