One of the recovered cars
Some suspected pipeline vandals have jumped into a canal in order to escape policemen who were chasing after them.

This was even as the policemen, from Ajuwon Police Station, recovered seven cars from the fleeing suspects. The cars are the operational vehicles of the vandals.
The Divisional Police Officer DPO (DPO) in charge of Ajuwon station, Mr. Agboye John, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) got information that the vandals were operating at Ishashi and immediately mobilized his Anti-Robbery Team.
The team was led by Inspector Ogunsola Lekan. On sighting the police, the vandals opened fire. The police team responded.
When they couldn’t withstand the fire power of the police, the fleeing suspects jumped into the canal and escaped.
The detectives however recovered 30 kegs of 50litre of petroleum products, seven cars used for the operation by the fleeing suspects and three engine boats.
The cars include two Sienna Space buses, one Highlander SUV and three Toyota Camry cars.

When contacted on the matter, John said that he was not authorised to speak on the arrest.

The case was transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Abeokuta, for further investigation.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Muyiwa Odejobi, confirmed the incident.

He explained that the police were on the trail of the fleeing suspects.  He warned criminals in Ogun State to relocate out of the state or face the full wrath of the law.

He further warned: “Criminals in Ogun State and those intending to come should relocate to elsewhere because we are ready to fish them out anywhere that they are.  We have the capacity to do that.”
