The Western Marine Command of the Nigerian Customs Services has
intercepted substances suspected to be Indian hemp. The substance
weighed 4,500kg, with a market value of over N150, 000,000 million.
The Customs Area Comptroller Western Marine Command, Comptroller
Yusuf Umar, recently handed over the substances to the Lagos State
National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Commander, Alhaji Sule
Aliyu. Umar said: “The interception took place around 12am on February
19, 2016, along Igbo-Ojanla near Badagry.”
He said that without his men, the seizure of the 48 bales of cannabis
wouldn’t have been possible. Recalling the hazards that came with the
job, Umar said that some of his men were attacked by smugglers in 2015.
The smugglers inflicted machete cuts on the heads, limbs and other
parts of the operatives’ bodies. “I however thank Almighty Allah for
sparing the lives of my men and officers.
