Mr. Adebowale Lawal, a
Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), is the Zone II Police Public
Relations Officer (PPRO). In this interview with CAMILLUS NNAJI, Lawal
reveals that the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, has
stepped-up the fight against corruption in police.
How has it been policing Lagos and Ogun states?
The task of policing Zone II, com- prising Lagos and Ogun states has been challenging.
We’re on top of the game. For instance, the last yuletide season was adjudged the best crime free one in five years.
We are not saying that there are no pockets of crime here and there;
but the command under Assistant In- spector General of Police (AIG),
Bala Hassan and Lagos State Commission- er of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni,
has done tremendously well in curbing crime.
Within the last few weeks in 2016, Zone II has arrested over 156 suspects at different black spots in Lagos and Ogun states.
Two different gangs of pipeline vandals have been arrested. We have
also reinforced our Anti- Kidnapping Team and Zonal Intel- ligence
Bureau to monitor FESTAC and other flash points associated with pipeline
vandalism. Our men are on covert operations; they dress in mufti and
stay at strategic posi- tions in the cities.
Speaking about robbery, we can make bold to say that after the inci-
dents of robberies in Ikorodu, FES- TAC and Agbara last year, we were
able to arrest the robbers. Since then, we have not recorded any
robbery.
