Girls’ College: Police allay fears over stolen sanitary pads

Police in Ondo State yesterday allayed the fear of parents over the allegation that the sanitary pads of students of the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Akure, were being used for ritual purposes.
The state Commissioner of Police, Hilda Ibirufo-Harrison, told journalists that none of the staff of the institution was caught in the act. She also said detectives were still working on the allegations levelled by the students against some cleaners of the institution.
Three cooks have been arrested in connection with the allegation that they usually steal students’ used sanitary pads for ritual purposes. Ibirufo-Harrison said the police would not discard the lead given by the students and some parents but would investigate the matter properly and anybody found culpable would be prosecuted. She, however, said the police had not substantiated the allegation of ritual practices against any of the staff of the institution.
Ibirufo-Harrison also paraded four suspected burglars at the state Command Headquarters, Akure. The suspects allegedly burgled a barber shop and stole a Nokia handset and other valuable items. It was gathered that the suspects had been terrorising Ayedun Quarters in Akure for a while before they were apprehended.
