A 16-year-old boy, Rilwan Okegbenro, has told the police in Lagos
that he was a member of the gang which killed a man, Olawale Adebayo, at
Ikorodu, recently.
Okegbenro and 17 others were arrested yesterday
during a raid on criminal hideouts by operatives of the Federal Special
Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS).
According to the police, Okegbenro confessed
to have participated in last month’s murder of Adebayo (22), behind
Wema Bank on Sagamu Road, Ikorodu.
The teenager mentioned two other members of the gang, Ahmed and
Taoreed, who took part in the murder but are now at large. The state
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Dolapo Badmos, said a manhunt
for the two suspects had commenced.
The PPRO said aside the teenager’s confession, Adebayo’s brother,
Ismaila Balogun, had identified the suspect as one of the killers. She
said: “The raid was done in collaboration with local vigilantes on
various black spots within Sabo, Odogunyan and Igbogbo community all in
Ikorodu and 18 suspects were arrested after the raid.
