Two suspected armed robbers, who were knocked
down by a moving trailer as they were fleeing from policemen have been
arrested.
The suspects, Sola Bilaminu 25 and his
accomplice Ibrahim Sandi 23, were knocked down by a moving trailer along
Lagos/Ibadan Expressway while trying to evade police arrest.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations
Officer (PPRO), DSP, Muyiwa Adejobi, said: “The suspects where robbing some
road users in front of the Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministry at weekend
when the incident happened. While they were operating, they sighted a police
patrol team and zoomed off in their motorbike.”
Adejobi said that the police patrol team,
attached to Ibafo Police Station, gave the suspects a hot chase. In the process
of trying to evade the policemen, the robbers were knocked down by the trailer
on the expressway.
The moment the suspects and their motorbike went
down, the pursuing policemen swooped on them.
Adejobi said: “The suspects sustained serious
injury. But the stolen items recovered from the suspects had been returned to
the owners. While the operational motorcycle used by the robbers was
also recovered.”
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police (CP),
Mr. Abdulmajid Ali, who commended the police operatives for their commitment, ordered
the suspects to be transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Magbon,
Abeokuta for further investigation.
The CP also directed that the Lagos-Ibadan
Expressway be adequately policed on regularly basis to protect road
users plying the road at night.
