Police kill our officer, NSCDC alleges

Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has accused some policemen of killing one of its officers in Calabar, Cross River State.

The state NSCDC Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr. Solomon Eremi, said the incident occurred on Wednesday night.
According to him, the officer was shot dead near the NSCDC headquarters at Anantigha, Calabar South Local Government Area. He said: “Our men were returning from official duty in our branded vehicle about 8p.m. on Wednesday. They were stopped at a police checkpoint very close to our headquarters. Our men identified themselves. But as one of them came down to speak with the policemen, he was shot.
He died instantly.” Eremi said the NSCDC had complained in writing and verbally to the state police commissioner and the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, on checkpoint at the vicinity of headquarters. “Now with this incident, both authorities are aware of the incident as they have stepped in,” the PRO added. Eremi, however, refused to disclose the identity of the murdered NSCDC officer. But he said officer’s body had been deposited in a mortuary in Calabar.
However, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. John Eluu, said he was not aware of the killing. He, however, promised that the police would look into it.
