N50m fraud: Artisans arraigned for cloning Ambode’s phone number

Department of State Security (DSS) yesterday arraigned two artisans before an Isolo Magistrates’ Court for allegedly cloning the mobile line of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State.

The suspects, Rilwanu Jamiu and Balogun Oyewole who claimed to be a cocoa dealer, allegedly used the governor’s cloned phone line to send a text message to the Accountant General of the State requesting for transfer of N50 million.
They were said to have attempted to perfect a N50 million transfer when they were nabbed by the DSS. The prosecuting counsel from the DSS, Mr. Peter Okerinmodun, told Chief Magistrate Adeola Adedayo that the suspects were arrested after using the cloned mobile line to send the text message of N50 million request to the Accountant General.
He said the suspects conspired with others now at large to commit the crime on February 10, about 10:02 hours. After the charges were read to the accused, they pleaded not guilty, while the prosecutor suggested they be kept in protective custody pending the outcome of the legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in view of the fact that their lives could be endangered by other suspects now on the run.
But Adedayo overruled Okerinmodun. The chief magistrate said since their offence was bailable, she was inclined to admit the accused to bail. She, therefore, granted them bail in the sum of N1 million each and two sureties in the like sum. Adedayo ruled that one of the sureties must be a religious or community leader within the jurisdiction of the court, and that the accused must provide five years’ tax clearance certificates.
She ordered the accused to be remanded in Kirikiri Prison pending the perfection of their bail conditions and adjourned the matter till May 10.http://newtelegraphonline.com/n50m-fraud-artisans-arraigned-cloning-ambodes-phone-number/
