At least two children and eight other passengers were burnt to death
while 12 others sustained severe burns in a motor accident in Badagry
area of Lagos State.
A witness said a car and a commercial bus collided
at Iyana Yafin in Badagry Local Government Area on Monday night and
immediately burst into flames.
It was learnt that residents and sympathisers tried fruitlessly to
curtail the fire which followed the collision about 8:30p.m. on
Lagos-Badagry Expressway. Sympathisers also had a hectic time in
rescuing the passengers.
The accident caused gridlock and forced several motorists to scamper
into safety. It could not be ascertained if any of the vehicles was
carrying jerrycans of fuel because of the unending fuel crisis. Another
witness said that the bus with registration No. KJA 654 XF drove against
the traffic in order to avoid being impounded by the Nigerian Customs
Service.
