Two policemen and the LASTMA official were alleged
to have carried out the robbery attack on the businessman.
While one of the policemen, identified as sergeant
Oluomo escaped, the other policeman, corporal Ewenta, attached to Trade Fair
Police Station was arrested. The dismissed LASTMA official, Ayorinde, was
arrested.
Oluomo is attached to the OPG " B" OPs
Lagos State Police Command. Operatives of FSARS are presently looking for him.
Oluomo and his partners in crime were alleged to
have robbed the businessman N620, 000.
The Area E Command, Festac Town, arrested Corporal Ewenta and Ayorinde after the businessman raised the alarm. Area E Commander handed the suspects over to FSARS.
Recalling how the businessman was robbed, a police souece said: “The businessman was driving to Apapa when he was stopped by two policemen along Malu road. Two policemen were in black mufti. They rode a motorcycle and blocked the victim’s car. They ordered him to alight. As he was asking them his offence, one of snatched his car key. They took over the wheel of the car. A third policeman also dressed in black trousers and brown vest entered his car. He introduced himself as a LASTMA official. He accused the victim of taking one way. They started driving him round Apapa. They said he should give them N125, 000 or they would take him to their office, where he would pay N250, 000.”

According to the police source, they searched the
victim’s car, found N500, 000 and took it. They started making phony calls,
saying they were bringing in the victim.
When the victim heard the call, he thought the men
were kidnappers and started pleading with them not to kidnap him.
“They told him that he still had to pay them N125,
000. They told him to go to the bank to withdraw the money. They drove him to
Old Ojoo road where his bank, Fidelity bank was located. Oluomo drove off
with the victim’s car. It was at the bank that the victim managed to call his
friend. He said he had been kidnapped and now at Fidelity bank, Maza Maza. The
friend alerted Area E Commander. They later collected the phone.”
The police source said that immediately the friend
alerted police, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in charge of Satellite
Police Station, started moving towards MazaMaza.
By then, the victim
had already withdrew N120,000, which the men collected from him. As they were
about to step out of the banking hall, the victim grabbed one of the men and
started screaming thief. People immediately gathered. The police later arrived
and arrested two of them, while Oluomo abandoned the victim’s car and
disappeared.The Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, said the story is not true.
