Four land grabbers held over murder of woman



Four suspected land grabbers have been arrested in connection with the murder of Sidikat Onasanya 52, at Imoro via Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Twenty-three expended and two live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi, who made the disclosure in a statement, said the suspects were arrested on Wednesday.
Oyeyemi listed the names of the suspects as Adewale Abimbola, Monday Benzon, Mukaila Azeez and Shodeinde Oluwafemi.
Oyeyemi said that the suspects were arrested following a report from one Wasiu Onasanya, who complained that he was in the village on Tuesday at about 09:00pm when the land grabbers attacked him with dangerous weapon.
The PPRO said: "Onasanya stated further that while they were making effort to abduct him to unknown destination, his mother, Sidikatu Onasanya, tried to prevent them from taking him away. She was roughly pushed away. She fell down and lost consciousness. She was rushed to Mount Zion Hospital, Ikorodu, where she was confirmed dead by the doctor. Upon the complaint, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in charge of Ogijo Police Station, a Superintendent of Police (SP), Tijani Muhammed, led a team of policemen to the scene. On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums opened fire on them while the policemen responded fire with fire. At the end of the operation, the four suspects were arrested while others escaped into the nearby bush."
Oyeyemi said the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu for autopsy.
