This revelation was made by the Force Police Public Relations Officer (FPPRO), Don Awunah.
The image maker said that four suspects, Bekewei Agbojule, 29, aka Prince Yellow, Philip Joel Kakadu 29, aka General Kakadu, a militant leader, Romeo Council, aka Raw and Totki Okoda 34, were arrested. Okoda is the fisherman that hatched the abduction plan and invited militants, known to be experienced in kidnapping, to take charge.
The police said that the suspects were arrested in Delta, Ondo, Ogun and Lagos states. The police also alleged that the suspects all confessed to the crime.
According to Awunah, Okoda resides in the creeks, behind the school, at the Ijaw fishermen settlement. Awunah said: “This suspect provided information for the gang about the school and the victims.” Okoda confessed to have given the information to the kidnappers about the existence of the school and the rich men children.
Okoda also led the gang into the Turkish School where the kidnapping took place. The suspects were arrested by the combined efforts of the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Department of State Security (DSS) and other police teams.
On January, 25, with Technical Intelligence Support Unit (TIU) and unrelenting follow up by IRT, a key member of the kidnappers, Bekewei Agbojule aka Prince Yellow, from Arogbo Town, Ondo State, was arrested by IRT in Lagos after he came out from the creek to enjoy his loot.
Agbojule allegedly confessed to the kidnapping of the victims. He also allegedly confessed to have collected N1.2 million as his own share of the ransom. Police recovered the money from him.
The police said: “Other suspects earlier arrested are Philip Joel Kakadu aka General Kakadu, who is the third in command in the hierarchy of militants terrorising Lagos and Ogun states. Romeo Council aka Raw and Totki Okoda 34, an Ijaw man, who lives in the creek behind the school at the Ijaw fishermen settlement.”
The joint security operation was supervised by the Assistant- Inspector General of Police (AIG), in charge of Zone II, Onikan, Lagos State, Mr. Kayode Aderanti. The victims; five students and three members of staff were abducted on January 13, 2017.
Awunah said: “In the course of investigation, the suspects were arrested. Okoda, who lives in the fishermen’s community, behind the school and provided information about the victims to his gang, was arrested.
Further investigation, and sustained pursuit by operatives of the IRT, led to the arrest of Agbojule, a principal suspect and a key member of the gang. Agbojule was arrested on January 25.”
The IGP, Ibrahim Idris assured Nigerians that the police would continue to work assiduously to prevent crime. Idris also urged Nigerians to be law abiding and continue to support the personnel of the Force deployed in their various localities.
