Police rescue LASTMA official from bus driver


Policemen attached to the Lagos State Task Force, Ikeja, Alausa, have rescued an official of Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA), from the grips of an angry commercial bus driver.
The policemen were said to have rescued the official, Mr. Omomoyesan Olumide, from the clutches of, Mr. Benjamin Archibong, 20, along Lekki-Ajah area.
This incident occurred two months after another LASTMA official, Mr. Tajudeen Olatunji Bakare, was stoned to death by angry mob at the Apapa area of the state.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, had instructed that the bus driver, Archibong, be charged to court for assaulting an official of LASTMA.

The driver was alleged to have attacked Olumide, after he attempted to arrest him for picking and dropping passengers at unauthorised route along Lekki-Ajah area of Lagos.
The driver was arrested and charged for assault, obstruction and conduct likely to cause breach of peace before Magistrate Adepeju Odusanya of Court 15 Samuel Ilori Magistrate Courts, Ogba, Lagos. The prosecuting counsel is Barrister Adedoyin Odukoya.
The suspect, an indigene of Akwa-Ibom State, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N100.000 with two sureties in like sum. The two sureties must be residents of Lagos.
The matter was adjourned to February 28, 2017, for further hearing.



Meanwhile,The Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force SP Olayinka Egbeyemi a Superintendent of Police disclosed that the suspect was charged to court based on the directive of the Commissioner of Police Mr Fatai Owoseni.
The Chairman stated that the operatives of the agency rescued the wounded LASTMA officials from the suspect on 31st of January, 2017 around Lekki-Ajah area of the State.



SP Egbeyemi added that: “The charges against the suspect would serve as deterrent to other road users not to obstruct any security or government officials while discharging thier legitimate duties.
