Islamic cleric steals neighbour’s baby placenta

Barely days after the Kwara State Police Command paraded three men for dealings in human parts, the police yesterday said it had again nabbed another man for being in possession of human parts, suspected to be baby placenta.

The suspect, Alfa Gani, 25, an Islamic cleric, alleged to be a notorious ritual killer, was found in possession of the placenta of a two-day old baby in his house located at Ajibesin community, Ogidi area of Ilorin South area of the state.

The suspect allegedly removed the baby’s placenta on Monday where it was buried in the neighbourhood.

He was arrested around 7am on Wednesday. It was gathered that the baby’s parents’, identified as Mr. and Mrs. Sadudeen, not only live in the same neighbourhood, but also share the same fence with the suspect.

Residents of the area, who made the discovery, were said to have sent a distress call to ‘E’ Division.’

Sources said that residents in the area sighted the man while he was digging out the placenta, from where the father of the baby had earlier buried it. Gani did not  know that he was being watched.

Angry youths in the area rose against the man’s and swooped on his house. They set it ablaze.

The noise of the youths compelled the mother of the baby to dash out from their apartment, to know what was happening. When she heard the allegation, she ran to the spot where the baby’s placenta was buried and discovered that it was no longer there.

Police Spokesperson, Ajayi Okasanmi (ASP) confirmed the incident, describing the suspect as a ‘notorious ritual killer.’

Okasanmi said: “ We call on residents in the state to always furnish the police with useful information, which can help us in the arrest of criminal elements in the society.”

The State’s Commissioner of Police Mr. Ambrose Aisabor, last week, while parading the three suspected human parts dealers, explained that they were caught at Tabira Villge, near Okuta in Baruten Local Government Area of the state.

The three suspects were brought to the command headquarters with a fresh human head and human arms as exhibits.

They were arrested on July 22, 2014 at about 10.35 pm, based on intelligence report. During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to the crime and mentioned some top politicians and businessmen who used to patronise them.

His words: “On   July, 22, 2014, at about 10:35pm, at Tabira village near Okuta, the command’s detectives, acting on intelligence report, arrested one Amos Kareem.  During investigation, search was conducted in his house where human parts, including head and arms were recovered. Abubakar Ladan, an accomplice was also arrested. Both confessed to have been dealing in human parts.”
