Vigilance group member kills 25-year-old

The Lagos State Police Command, Sagamu Road Division, has arrested a member of a vigilance group in the area, Mr. Olumoye Fashola, for allegedly shooting a 25-year-old man, Yomi Azeez, which led to his death.
Our correspondent learnt that Fashola, who lives on Community Street, Ikorodu, worked as a security guard in the area. It was also gathered that the suspect allegedly shot Azeez in front of a hotel at about 7.30pm on Thursday evening.
It was further learnt that Fashola, who is popularly called Ifa, shot the deceased on the suspicion that he was either a cult member or an armed robber.
The police said that after Azeez was killed, the owner of the hotel where the murder was committed, identified simply as Kamorudeen, reported the incident to the police.
During a visit to the area on Saturday, the residents decried the spate of killings in the Ikorodu area, most of which they alleged were for ritual purposes. The relatives of the deceased could, however, not be located as nobody knew their whereabouts after the incident.
The Lagos State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Lelma Kolle, confirmed the murder, adding that the suspect had been arrested, while investigations on the matter were ongoing.
He said, “The suspect has been arrested. He is a member of a vigilance group in the area. The police on Thursday found the deceased in a pool of blood, and the suspect has confessed to the crime.
“The corpse has been deposited at the Ikorodu General Hospital for autopsy. Also, investigations on the matter are ongoing.”
Meanwhile, on Thursday at Adegboyega Street, Agilinti, Mile 12 area, Lagos, residents found the dead body of a young man who was killed and dumped by yet-to-be-identified attackers.
The body, our correspondent gathered, was soaked in blood, while the head had been cut off. The headless body was dumped at the back of a construction company in the area.
During a visit on Friday, some residents, who spoke with PUNCH Metro on condition of anonymity, said it was difficult to identify the victim, because the head had been cut off. They however said the body was that of a young man, whose ages should be between 25 and 30 years.
It was gathered that the corpse was evacuated by policemen from the Mile 12 Division on Friday morning.
