The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State
Command has handed over 67,400 litres of petroleum product to the
Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The state NSCDC Public
Relations Officer (PRO), Mefor Chibuzo, said the product was handed over
to NNPC after it was tested by the Department of Petroleum Resources
(DPR).
The product was recovered from oil vandals in different locations
within Lagos State in the past four months.
“At least 1,442 kegs of 25
litres each of petroleum products were intercepted along the Badagry
axis. And 204 kegs of 50 litres each were intercepted within
Ikorodu-Ikeja axis, while 81 drums of 250 litres each of fuel were
intercepted by the Nigerian Navy at Apapa and transferred to NSCDC Lagos
Command,” Chibuzo said.
He added that the product was loaded from creeks in Ikorodu, Apapa
and Festac areas of Lagos State for onward movement to neighbouring
countries of Republic of Benin and Togo. The state NSCDC Commandant,
Gabriel Abafi, handed over product. He said: “These operations were
possible due to intelligence information gathered by undercover agents
and other good-spirited Nigerians. I appeal to Lagosians to always
provide the corps with useful information on illegal activities around
their environment.” The commandant promised that there would be zero
tolerance of any form of criminality in Lagos.
