The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai
Owoseni, yesterday said that security would be beefed up in different parts of the
metropolis, urging members of the public to report suspicious
movements at worship centres, markets and motor parks.
This was even as he insisted that any report that
Boko Haram members were in Lagos, was erroneous and should be disregarded.
Addressing journalists yesterday, Owoseni said: “We don’t
have any report of Boko Haram in Lagos. We’re however going to sustain raids on
criminal hideouts, black spots and abandoned buildings.”
He said adequate policemen personnel had been
deployed and positioned to ensure that there was peaceful Sallah celebration.
He explained that part of the plan to ensure a
peaceful celebration, was to reduce street hawkers on the roads. He noted that
part of the cause of gridlock, was street hawkers.
He added: “We’re working together with Lagos State Transport
Management Authority (LASTMA) and Rapid Response Squad (RRS) to ensure a crime
free and peaceful Sallah celebration. We shall position ourselves at major
roads, leading to entry into Lagos and coming in to Lagos. Members of the
public should report any suspicious movements, especially at markets, motor
parks and worship centres.”
