Stowaway hid at airport for two weeks –Investigation

Fresh facts emerged yesterday about the stowaway, who was found in the tyre compartment of the Accra, Ghana-bound Medview flight.

The stowaway, identified as Festus Chizuba, 24, residing in Onitsha, Anambra State, said he was sick and tired of Onitsha and Nigeria and was determined to travel overseas at all costs. Although he did not have money, he was resolute to leave Nigeria by all means.
He boarded a trailer, loaded with goods, from Onitsha to Lagos. When he got to Lagos, he jumped the fence of the airport and found himself inside the airport premises. Chizuba was said to have been inside the airport for two weeks, biding his time and waiting for opportunity.
The stowaway successfully hid himself in the tyre compartment of the aircraft which was ready for taxing from MMA2. On Wednesday, he was discovered in the tyre compartment of Medview plane by the pilot who was making final check-up before take-off about 7:30am.
A source at the airport said: “The stowaway confessed that he did that out of desperation to leave the country in search of greener pastures. When asked how he managed to find his way into the tyre compartment of the aircraft, he declared that he jumped the fence that demarcated the Presidential Lounge of the Lagos airport from the tarmac where the plane was waiting for clearance.” A security official, who said he witnessed the incident, disclosed that the matter had been ‘incidented,’ while the culprit was undergoing interrogation.
