Two rescued as two-storey building collapses

Two persons escaped death yesterday when a two-storey building under construction at No. 37, Agungi Ajiran Road opposite Olafemi Olatunji Street, Lekki in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State collapsed. 

The two persons were rescued by emergency responders.The victims were said to be construction workers working on the building. A witness said: “The voices of the workers trapped under the collapsed building could be heard calling for help.”
The building was said to have collapsed about 8am. The two who were rescued were rushed to a nearby hospital. Another witness, who identified herself as Olori Ajikan, said: “The trapped workers were calling for help while informing the rescue operators that they were still alive.”
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), South-West Region, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident. He said only two persons were rescued from the site of the collapsed building. Some of the residents of the area said the collapse might have been prompted by the downpour on Monday night.
The General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Mr Michael Akindele, said the agency received a distress call around 8:20am and rushed to the scene immediately. He said: “We began rescue operation immediately and so far we have rescued two male adults.
