A four-year-old boy at Okwata village, Igbeagu community in Izzi
Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, identified as Chidiebere, has
reportedly drowned inside his father’s well in their compound.
Chidiebere was missing in the evening when his father, John Nwibokonshi,
began to search for him but did not see him which made him to raise the
alarm. According to a neighbour, the alarm attracted the villagers and
they organised a search party for the missing boy. He said: “We searched
every nook and cranny of the village but we did not see him.
The following morning his body was found floating inside the well
belonging to the family. “The well is the source of drinking water to
both the family and the neighbours because we have water scarcity here.”
The neighbour claimed that Nwibokonshi had been advised several times
to fence the well but he refused.
