The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Fountain University, Osogbo, Prof
AbdulHakeem Mobolaji and his 14-year-old son, Mohammed, died in an auto
crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
However, other occupants of the Sport
Utility Vehicle (SUV) driven by the professor of Economics, including
his second son, Abdul-Hafiz and a friend, Mr Abdul-Rasheed Attah, a
lawyer, survived the accident which occurred on Sunday evening.
According to sources, the two survivors are currently receiving
treatment at an undisclosed hospital. Mobolaji and his son, who were
yesterday buried in Akinyele Local Government Area in Ibadan, Oyo State,
were said to have died on the spot when a commercial bus rammed into
their car.
Some of the occupants of the commercial bus were also said to have
died in the crash. Mr Semiu Fasansi, an aide to the Vice-Chancellor of
Fountain University, Prof Bashir Raji, said the deceased just bagged his
professorship about three months ago and was appointed the Coordina-tor
for the Vice-Chancellor, otherwise known as Deputy Vice-Chancellor
within the same period. Fasansi, who prayed that God granted the family
of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss, also said he would be
greatly missed not only by the university community but also the Muslim
