Toyin, the wife of the Deputy Managing Director of The Sun
Newspapers, Mr Steve Nwosu, yesterday disclosed that her kidnappers
treated her well.
She, however, told New Telegraph she refused to eat
for the 72 hours she spent in her abductors’ den.
Toyin, a mother of four, who was abducted from her house on Baale
Street, Ogundaro Bashorun Akanwo Estate, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos, about
2:30am on Monday, was released about 2:20am yesterday. It was gathered
that the kidnappers dropped her off near Zenith Bank by Festac Bridge in
Lagos and sped off in their boat. Toyin, who reunited with her worried
husband and children, was tired and weak.
She said: “My kidnappers took very good care of me. They bought
mosquito net. They said that my skin showed that my husband was rich, so
they did not want mosquitoes to bite me. I, however, refused to eat
throughout the time of my abduction.”
Addressing journalists yesterday at the Lagos Police Command, the
state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, expressed joy that Toyin
was released unhurt. He said: “Happily, Toyin had been reunited with her
family. She was released about 2:20am. I personally witnessed it.
I went with Steve (Nwosu) and family to receive his wife. She has
debriefed us. We want to assure everyone in Lagos and Nigeria that the
police will deploy all necessary investigative tools to track those
involved in the crime and their sponsors.”
Owoseni explained that since the incident, police detectives had been
working on covert operation, day and night, to get those involved.
According to him, he and his men will not relent until the suspects are
arrested. The commissioner said that the eventual arrest of the
kidnappers would send a message across to other criminals. Owoseni
praised Nwosu for giving police the utmost support.
Meanwhile, the house of the Nwosus was a beehive of activities
yesterday as friends, relatives and journalists flocked the place.
Nwosu, who was beaming with smile and gratitude to God, conducted
visitors around the house to show them how the robbers cum kidnappers
gained entry. Speaking briefly to journalists before going for
recuperation, Toyin expressed profound gratitude to Almighty God, the
publisher of The Sun and New Telegraph Newspapers, Dr Orji Kalu, the
Lagos State Police Commissioner, Owoseni, the Department of State
Services (DSS), the media and all those who prayed for her release.
