A father of two, Sunday Ewaranwon, has told the Nigeria Security and
Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), that he was tricked into joining pipeline
vandalism.
The 30-year-old suspect said he was desperate to get any job to pay
his children’s school fees. However, Ewaranwon, who was arrested by the
marine team of the Anti- Vandal Unit of the NSCDC, Lagos State Command,
said he wished he had scrutinised the job offer.
The suspect was caught with 154 jerry-cans of 50 litres each of
stolen fuel as well as 33 empty kegs of 50 litres loaded into a wooden
boat powered by 30-Horsepower Suzuki engine at a creek in Ikorodu.
Explaining that his children are 12 and five years old respectively,
both in primary schools, Ewaranwon said he used to be a conductor at
‘Tipper Garage,’ Ketu, earning N2,000 per day, but the driver of the bus
later fired him for unknown reasons.
