Nwosu: Inspector still on danger list

A Police Inspector, Mr Moronfola Oyeniyi, who was almost hacked to death on Wednesday while he and others were being taken to kidnappers’ den by a prime suspect, is still on danger list.

The prime suspect was arrested in connection with the case of The Sun newspapers’ Deputy Managing Director, Mr Steve Nwosu, whose wife, Toyin, was abducted last Monday.
Oyeniyi’s wife was said to have collapsed and broke into tears when she saw her husband in the hospital. Just like most people, she couldn’t recognise Oyeniyi. The kidnappers inflicted machete cuts on every part of his body, but the wound threatening his life presently is a deep cut on his skull.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who had earlier visited Oyeniyi at the hospital on Friday, ordered that the 15 suspects, who were arrested in connection with the attack on Oyeniyi and his team, be granted bail and allowed to go. It would be recalled that Oyeniyi and three other policemen, attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, Lagos, were heading to the supposed hideout of the kidnappers who abducted Mrs Nwosu, when they were attacked at Agboju area of Festac, Lagos. The men, who attacked the policemen about 9am on that fateful day, went away with the prime suspect, Oyeniyi’s service pistol and his AK47 rifle.
When the attackers swooped on the policemen, Oyeniyi’s three colleagues bolted, leaving him at the mercy of the armed men. The escaped policemen reinforced, stormed the scene and arrested 15 suspects. The attackers appeared from the canal area and before the policemen knew what was happening, they had pounced on them. The prime suspect was said to have been arrested during ongoing investigation and cracked under intense interrogation. He agreed to take the policemen to where Toyin was being held before the attack.
