Policemen kick over favouritism in promotion

Policemen in the Lagos State Command have called on the Inspector-General of Police. Mr. Solomon Arase, to offer an explanation on why only 50 policemen deserved promotion in the entire state.

The policemen told Saturday PUNCH that they were angry that despite their service, people were only being promoted through favouritism.
There are allegations that some of the beneficiaries had to even pay bribes to be on the list.
Some of the aggrieved policemen wrote a letter to Saturday PUNCH, asking for an explanation from the police boss on why they had been denied their rights.
Our correspondent decided to get the feelers of other policemen in the state, to determine whether the opinion expressed in the letter, was a general feeling. The policemen who spoke with Saturday PUNCH explained that the fact that promotion is still based on favouritism in the police force is a shock to them.
At the Department of Criminal Investigations, Yaba, Lagos, some policemen lamented that they had not been promoted in the last eight years.
