About 14,000 policemen and 200 civilians, mostly traders in various
parts of Lagos State, have been trained in human rights issues.
The
training was organised by Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), the
Crime Victims Foundation (CVF) and the Human Rights Education Awareness
Centre (HUREC).
The CVF Executive Director, Gloria Ebuji, said thorough understanding
of human rights between the police and civilians would provide mutual
benefit in quality service in areas of service delivery, safety and
justice.
She said: “In the area of police training, our NGO, in collaboration
with the Nigeria Police Force, has trained more than 14,000 police
officers in human rights from the ranks of chief superintendent of
police to constables, we have also trained 200 civilians mostly traders
in Lagos. “We are targeting the 36 states of the country and very soon,
human rights education and awareness will be everywhere.”
