Policeman rejects posting over poor egunje

Lagos CP. Fatai Owoseni

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, has ordered the immediate arrest and detention of a serving police constable who refused to go to his new posting because bribes in the place are allegedly poor.

The policeman, Mr. Rotimi Oloye, was posted to Osun State, but said that, “Osun State is too dry.”
He was sighted at Eleeko area of Akodo, Ibeju Lekki, wearing anti-riot uniform, impersonating the rank of a corporal. He was also extorting members of the public.
It was gathered that members of the public, alerted policemen attached to Akodo to his illegal activities. When he was arrested, police discovered that he was a deserting his duty post in Osun State.
Oloye, a formerly attached to Mobile Police Force (Mopol 49), in Epe, was de-mobbed in 2012 and transferred to Osun State, but he refused to go to his new place of posting. Rather, he started wearing the rank of corporal, extorting money from people.  He had been on this charade since 2012 and only just arrested towards this closing of 2015. Ironically, all the while he was gallivanting round Lagos, doing nothing; he was collecting his monthly salary.
Oloye was arrested by a team of policemen led by Mr. Raphael Adams, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, (ASP).

A police source said: “Some members of the public, who suspected him, alerted the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in charge of Akodo Police Station, Mr. Adamu Iday. The DPO is a Superintendent of Police, (SP).”
It was gathered that Oloye had been transferred to area J Headquarters in Elemooror in Ajah axis of the state for further investigation.
