About 10 people escaped death by a whisker yesterday in Akure, Ondo
State when two fuel tankers caught fire at a filling station on
Akure-Ondo Road.
Those included the drivers of the two trucks, their
assistants and the workers at the filling station. The incident, which
occurred at the Giant IBK Oil and Gas Limited, caught the workers
unaware.
The fire started around 1.30pm when the drivers attached to the
tankers were offloading fuel into the fuel dump at the station.
One of
the workers at the filling station told our correspondent that the
tankers suddenly burst into flame. He said they tried to use fire
extinguishers to no avail as it got out of control.
