The Police
Service Commission Committee on Public Complaint on Police Conduct has received
several complaints against the Police.
The Committee headed by Justice
Olufunlola Adekeye, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court met today December
22nd, 2015, in Abuja and decided to investigate five complaints
brought before it.
Justice
Adekeye said the Commission will henceforth treat with utmost seriousness cases
from the public and even the Police on Police misconduct.
She advised serving
Police Officers who are victims of Police action in one way or the other to
bring their complaints to the Commission within three months.
According to her,
the Committee which has since taken off will ensure that the Police operate
within the law and in accordance with the rules and regulations guiding its
operations.
Cases
already slated for the Committees investigation include a case of alleged
cheating and gross misconduct against one Inspector Fortune Bassey serving at
the Police Service Commission Police liaison Desk; a case from the Brekete
family on behalf of ASP Mohammed Yusuf, Sgt. Agada Kenneth and Cpl. Agada
Lawrence for wrongful dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force and another case
from the Brekete Family on behalf of CPL. Abuh Usman, Sgt. Garuba Othaniel,
CPL. Shehu Usman and one Sara Dona also for wrongful dismissal.
The
Committee has also scheduled for investigation an alleged case of stealing and
criminal diversion/conversion of N1.8million belonging to one Ikechukwu Anthony
Nnamani by the Men of the Nigeria Police Force FCT, Command.
Mr. Nnamani in
a petition by his Solicitors, I.C. Ejiofor & Co, had complained that on the
30th of September, 2015, at about 9pm at Apo Bridge, along Area 1,
Apo express way, he was stopped by a Police team led by Supol Vincent Ejeh as
he was trying to drop a friend by the road side.
He alleged that both his car
which he locked and the N1.8million inside it were taking away and till today
he has faced persecution and intimidation in the hands of the police while
trying to retrieve them.
The
Committee is also to investigate a complaint by one Muhammad Bashiru Liva that
Mr. J.J. Akpani, DPO Shendam Division acted contrary to the provisions of the
law, by not accepting the complaint he lodged at the Divisional headquarters.
Another complaint by Ibrahim Randawa against one Tanko Tallafi of the same
Division will also be investigated.
