To ensure that Nigerians have a Christmas free of road crashes, the
Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has embarked on random alcohol
examination of drivers.
The ongoing programme includes joint road show
awareness on dangers in drink-driving, radio and television talk shows
and random testing of motorists with breathalysers to check alcoholic
concentration level.
Lagos Sector Commander, FRSC, Corps Commander
Hyginus Omeje, disclosed this over the weekend while fielding questions
on plans to curb road crashes and gridlock this festive season.
He said: “The FRSC has employed the use of breathalysers donated by Guinness
Nigeria PLC to randomly test drivers’ alcohol level while driving. If
alcohol rises above the legal limit of 0.05 per cent, we shall prosecute
the driver and impound his vehicles.”
