Adesanya |
Fresh facts emerging from friends of the twins, Taiwo and Kehinde
Oyesolu, who were killed, along with their friend, Adegoke Adesanya alias Jeje,
at the Ketu area of Lagos State, on Saturday by a drunken mobile policeman,
revealed that Adesanya was killed on his birthday.
This was even as family members of the twins accused the Nigeria
Police Force of treating them shabbily.
The twins’ friend, Adesanya was buried on Sunday at about 7; 24pm
somewhere in Ikorodu area of the state.
One of Adesanya friends, who didn’t wish his name to be mentioned,
said: “Jeje was buried without the presence of policemen in attendant. The family
said it didn’t want problem. They hurriedly bury him. The absence of policemen
angered family members. It was so unfortunate that he was killed on his
birthday anniversary.”
Family members of the twins said that police number one man in the
state, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, was yet to pay the
bereaved mother of the twins a condolence visit.
But on Sunday, speaking with journalists in front of the Paulson Hotel
Plaza, Owoseni said that he had already visited the grieving 75-year-old woman.
According to the family members, the Nigerian Navy Authority had
already gotten in touch with them and even ordered the relocation of the
remains of the slain twins be moved from Ikorodu General Hospital to the Navy Hospital
Mortuary, Ojo, for proper burial arrangement.
It was however gathered that the twins’ mother, Beatrice, had been
moved to Ifo, Ogun State, to stay with one of his in-laws. Apparently, the old
woman had four children, the twins and two daughters. One of the daughters is
married Mr. Segun
Shodunke, while the second daughter resides in Abuja.
The second daughter was said to have flown in from Abuja, to Lagos
yesterday to be with her mum.
The son-in-law, Shodunke, said: “We’re not happy with the manner
the police authority is treating the family.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police Fatai Owoseni on
Sunday visited the hotel where the incident took place, but never bothered to
visit Mrs Beatrice Oyesolu the mother of the slain twins to sympathise with her.
All we are demanding from the police authority is justice and compensation
because the old woman cannot longer work again.”
Shodunke however denied reports in some national dailies that the
twins were the only children of Beatrice. He said that he is married to the
elder sister of the twins.
Shodunke said: “The twins were my children. They are not cultists.
If they were, Taiye (Taiwo) wouldn’t have been enlisted into the Nigerian Navy.
And his brother Kehinde wouldn’t be working in a reputable company. I don’t
know where the paper that wrote they were cult members got the information.”
When our correspondent visited No 6, Jafemi Street on Monday, Mrs,
Oyesoslu, where Beatrice was taken to after the death of her twins, it was
discovered that she had been moved to Ifo, O gun State.
Relatives, friends and residents of the area were seen weeping and
some repeatedly hurled insult and curses on the dead policeman.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Joe Offor,
said: “The Commissioner of Police visited the mother of the twins on Sunday. He
would be visiting the family again.”
