Man hides guns inside bag of rice

Man hides guns inside bag of rice
Men of the Lagos State Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, have arrested a 29-year-old armed robbery suspect, Idowu Animashahun, for hiding guns inside a bag of rice. Animashahun, a onetime political tug to a popular politician in Isale Eko area of Lagos State, said after he was abandoned by the politician who paid him off with N2 million, life had become so difficult that he could not afford to eat three square meals a day.
According to him, he decided to go into armed robbery to make ends meet. He said: “Three month after the popular politician paid me off, I became poor and confused, my living condition began to deteriorate and there was nowhere to go.
That was why I joined the robbery gang in Isale Eko. Since I joined the gang, I have been living like a king and feeding myself very well.” The suspect also confessed that his political godfather bought guns and dangerous weapons for him and others during political rallies to attack their opponents.
He added that the popular politician bought Ak47 rifles and other dangerous weapons from Cotonou and Ghana and advised them to buy bags of rice and hide the guns. This, according to him, makes it impossible for anyone, not even the police or the Customs, to detect the weapons.
He added: “The only regret I have is that my political godfather, now a member of one of the state Houses of Assembly, lives a wealthy life while I am here struggling to make ends meet. “If I have another opportunity to see the man I will kill him for making my life look miserable and confused. I have no home and my two wives have left me, living my children to stay with my grandmother in the village.”
Animashahun also said that the only property he had was a mud house he built for his grandmother in the village. He also told the police that he had been to prison twice and served for three years before he was bailed out by a popular lawyer whom he paid N1 million.
