Engineer, three others arrested for robbery
Policemen attached to the Isolo Division in Lagos have arrested four suspected armed robbers, who specialised in snatching Toyota Camry cars at gunpoint. The police team led by CSP Adamu Ibrahim caught up with the suspects while trying to escape in a Toyota Camry car they snatched at Gbagada Estate area of Lagos.
Items recovered from the suspects include British made pistols, laptops and handsets belonging to the victim. One of the suspects, Samson Oyebanji of No 9, Afolabi Oyewale Street, Ejigbo, said that one Oche John Agbo who hails from Benue State and lives in Bariga area of Lagos State lured him to participate in the robbery operation which lead to their arrest.
Oyebanji said Agbo approached him with two other members of the gang, Morgan Udama and Suleiman Abdullahi, both of 19, Ewenla Street, Bariga, that it was a quick job he wanted them to be part of. He added that after the job, they would be rewarded handsomely, but unknown to them.
The father of one, who lives with his aged mother, said he was an engineer with Flour Mills Nigeria Limited. In his confessional statement, Oyebanji said his take home pay as salary in a month was enough for him but he did not know what led him to participate in the robbery operation.
He said: “I am a technical engineer with Flour Mills Nigeria Limited and my salary is N120,000 per month. I don’t know what pushed me to follow Oche (Agbo) in the robbery operation. In fact, I think it is the devil’s work.” The suspect said that on the fateful day, Agbo, who is the leader of the gang, lodged them at a nearby hotel to enable them to go for the operation.
He explained that Agbo brought out a British Pistol and pointed it at the woman driving the car before they snatched it. Oyebanji and others have been transferred to the Lagos State Special Anti- Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, for further interrogation.
