Residents of Akanni Bashuua Street, Somolu, Lagos on Tuesday morning woke up to the gory sight of a middle-aged man, who was hacked to death by unknown attackers, and dumped on the road in the area.
Our correspondent learnt that the man, whose names had yet to be known, was killed during the night by suspected hoodlums, who had been ravaging the area in recent times.
It was further gathered that the corpse, which laid there till afternoon when the man’s family members and health officials took it away, had several machete cuts and was dumped in a pool of blood.
When our correspondent visited the area on Wednesday, a resident, who gave his name simply as Akinola, said the man was killed in the night, adding that his face was not familiar to any of the residents.
He said, “On Tuesday morning, we all saw the dead body. The man was hacked in several places, while his blood covered the floor. His face was unfamiliar to anyone.
“In the afternoon, some people that seemed to be his family members with some policemen came with an ambulance to take the corpse away.”
Another resident, who declined to give her name, advised the security agencies to intensify their patrols in the area to prevent more killings.
All efforts to locate the family of the deceased as of the time of report were not successful as residents of the street could not identify them.
The Lagos State Police deputy Public Relations Officer, Lelma Kolle, promised to call, but had yet to do so as of press time.
