Nemesis at the weekend caught up with a man who specialised in
vandalising and stealing underground streetlight cables.
The suspect,
Lucky Udeagwu (29), was apprehended by officials of the Rapid Respond
Squad (RRS) while attempting to steal the Light-Up Lagos project cable
at Ogudu area.
It was learnt that Udeagwu and two accomplices were coming out of the
bush where they had exhumed a 35-metre long armoured cable. While he
was arrested around 3a.m. on Saturday, the other two escaped. Speaking
on the development, Inspector Bello Kabir, who led the patrol on
Oworonshoki Expressway inward Alapere, said that Governor Akinwunmi
Ambode gave the directive to RRS to monitor the cables. He said:
“The RRS Commander, Mr. Tunji Disu, had warned RRS riders that
Governor Ambode always check out Light-Up Lagos project because of cases
of vandalism and theft of armoured cable powering the streetlights.
“Early Saturday morning, we saw Lucky (Udeagwu) and two other guys
carrying a big sack coming towards Ogudu bus stop.
