Businessman held for allegedly killing sales girl

A businessman, who deals on electrical parts on Owerri Road in Onitsha, Anambra State, is being detained by the police for allegedly killing his sales girl identified simply as Chinazo for ritual purposes.
The suspect (name withheld), said to be a native of Abba in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, was said to have committed the crime penultimate Friday after luring her to an hotel.
The girl hailed from Okpuje in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State. When contacted on phone the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Emeka Chukwuemeka, refused to confirm allegation that the police were planning to release the suspect.
The PPRO promised to call our correspondent later. Unfortunately, he did not call at press time.
A police source said that the businessman had taken the sales girl to a popular hotel in Obosi, near the commercial town of Onitsha penultimate Friday and allegedly drugged her before killing her.
The suspect also allegedly removed the girl’s body parts for ritual purposes. Sources said that when he was detained at the Obosi Police Station, the suspect confessed to committing the crime.
He also did the same thing when he was transferred to the police headquarters in Awka, the state capital.
A group operating in the South-East and Lagos, Youth Organisation for Empowerment and Exemplary Leadership, yesterday described the incident as a dastardly act against one of the leaders of tomorrow.
The leader of the group, Mr Ike Onu, also called on the police “not to allow this heinous crime against an innocent sales girl go unpunished.
We call on all well-meaning members of the Nigerian society to urge the police to do the right thing and not allow corruption blight their sense of judgement in this pathetic case”.
