An innocent head mistress who never
knew her packaged contained suspected drug substances, has led to the busting
of a syndicate of drug traffickers.
The woman, whom the National Drug
Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), refused to disclose her name for security
reasons, was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA),
Lagos State, in possessions of bottles of Alomo bitters filled with substances
that reacted positive to cannabis. She was taking the drugs to Dubai.
The woman appeared genuinely shocked
at the discovery and quickly told NDLEA agents who gave her the Alomo bitters. The
suspect, who planted the drug, Nnadi Chibueze, 30, was promptly arrested.
Preliminary investigation revealed
that when Chibueze realised that the woman was heading to Dubai for her
personal business, he had implored her to assist him hand cartons of Alomo
bitters to his elder brother who sells the stuff in Dubai.
Trying to be nice, the woman had
agreed, only to get arrested at the airport.
The arrest of Chibueze had made
agents to begin to hunt for other members of his syndicate within Nigeria and
overseas.
Knowing the game was up, Chibueze
confessed that the drug consignment was inadvertently given to the head
mistress in error.
His words: “I personally concealed the
cannabis inside one of the bottles of Alomo bitters. The original plan was to
send the drug to my brother in Dubai through a friend but the consignment was
given to the head mistress in error. When I was told that the goods were given
to the head mistress, I was greatly disturbed. It was a great mistake that she
was given the consignment that contained the drug.”
NDLEA spokesman, Mitchel Ofoyeju
said that the cannabis weighed 130 grammes and was detected at the MMIA.
He said that Chibueze concealed the
drug which was given to the head mistress to deliver in Dubai.
NDLEA commander at the Airport, Mr.
Hamza Umar said that Chibueze has explained his role in his confessional
statement.
Hamza said: “As soon as the drug was
detected, we conducted a follow-up raid operation that led to the arrest of the
main suspect, Chibueze. He has owned up to the crime and the case now being
investigated for subsequent prosecution.”
