PDP/APC clash: Group wants HRC to investigate killing, shooting

A group, ‘Activists for Good Government’ has implored the National Human Rights Commission to commence investigation into the killing of Mr. Peter Eyitayo and shooting of Mr. Lanre Ogunjimi at the Agege area of Lagos State.

The group said that while Ogunjimi was shot, Enitayo was killed last week during a clash between supporters of All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Agege, Lagos State.

The group insisted on an independent investigation, alleging that some policemen, who used to team up with politicians, may be involved in the attack.

Leader of the group, Comrade Declan Ihekaire said: “Given the different reports of political assassinations, killings resulting from political rallies and clashes among party followers and thugs, it has become necessary to reemphasize the need to take necessary proactive measures if the February 2015 elections must not end in another violent experience. It’s never too late to take such steps if the nation must be safe from gradual descent into political anarchy.”

Ihekaire wanted the Human Rights Commission to probe and arrest those behind the killings of Eyitayo and shooting of Ogunjimi. He noted that if acts of impunities are handled with levity, it might  it escalates into more clashes.

Ihekaire said: “We require   Independent Investigation of Eyitayo and the gun wound victim on Ogunjimi,  We also request that all those found connected to this dastard killing irrespective of status must be made to face the wrath of the Law. We implore the National Human Rights commission to commence findings into the killing of Mr. Peter Eyitayo in Agege on  January 22, 2015.”

While seeking for peace, Ihekaire asked all party supporters to key into the peace pact signed by APC and PDP Presidential candidates.
He added: “We call security agencies to refuse to be used as tools in the hands of politicians. We request that all those found to be connected to the killing and shooting of these men, should be made to face the law irrespective of status.”
