Bad day for PDP members as suspected robbers swooped



Some suspected armed robbers yesterday, attacked members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who attended President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo, flag-off campaign ceremony at Tafawa Balewa Square.

About 15 bandits were said to have operated under the Apongbon Bridge, smashing vehicles’ windscreens, stealing cash, mobile phones and other valuables, around 4.30pm.
The dare-devil robbers alleged to have smashed windscreens of vehicles as they threatened people with their arms and ammunition.
Traders in the area were said to have abandoned their wares and scampered for safety.
One of the victims who identified himself as Bamidele said that the robbers dispossessed him of his two mobile phones and N12, 500.
His words: "I have never seen this kind of robbery since I was born. The robbers were pointing their guns at anybody and robbing. Policemen around ran away. It was later that they reinforced. When the robbers noticed heavy presence of policemen approaching, they took to their heels. They dispossessed me of my N12,500 and two handsets. They smashed windscreens of vehicles as robbed".
A woman, Mama Ngozi said that most people robbed were members of PDP because they were returning from Tafawa Balewa Square when the incident occurred.
