A team of operatives from the Department of State Security Services
(DSS) and other law enforcement agents, including the police, army and
navy, on Saturday, stormed suspected oil vandals’ hideouts in Isawo,
Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The operatives stormed the community at
about 5am, armed to the teeth. They positioned themselves at different
strategic locations within the area.
This combine operation came three weeks after some vandals opened
fire on DSS officers, killing over eight of them, taking away their
corpses and guns. Five of the DSS men were alleged to have been taken
alive. Prior to the attack on the DSS men, the vandals had also attacked
and killed policemen and officials of Nigeria Security and Civil
Defense Corps (NSDCS) at the same location, disappearing also with their
corpses and rifles.
When our correspondent visited the area on Saturday, some operatives
of the DSS and Special Anti- Robbery Squad (SARS) were seen patrolling
the Majidun River waterways with the assistant of naval personnel. The
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, who was in the
area, told residents not to panic over the presence of the law
enforcement agents, as they were there to root out vandals in the
community. He said: “The presence of the DSS, policemen, army and navy
is neither to harass nor to intimidate anybody.
