Collapsed building: Octogenarian dies in hospital

One of the initial survivors of the threestorey building which caved at Odunfa Street, Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island on Wednesday has died. 

The woman, Alhaja Mistura Ahmodu, said to be in her 80s was said to have died at the hospital where she was rushed to after emergency responders rescued her from the rubble.
This was as the General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA), Mr Michael Akindele, said rescue operation had been concluded. He added that no person was found under the rubble.
Although Akindele could not confirm the death of the elderly woman, sources in the emergency agencies of the state said the octogenarian died because of the injuries she sustained when the building collapsed. The deceased, who hailed from Ilorin, Kwara State, was rescued along with four other residents of the building.
She was carried on a stretcher, with an oxygen mask on her mouth and nostrils before she was conveyed to a standby Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) bus. The General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LSBCA), Shola Aderigbebe, had said that the building was marked for integrity test while a 14-day ultimatum given to the residents. He decried the lack of compliance of residents on safety directives.
