There was tension yesterday at the Ebute-Metta Magistrates Court,
Oyingbo, Lagos, where police corporal, Museliu Aremu, who shot dead Mrs.
Comfort Idongesit Udoh a few weeks ago, was arraigned.
Human right groups besieged the court premises, carrying placards and
demanding that justice should be done over the murder of Mrs. Udoh and
shooting of her husband, Mr. Godwin Udoh. Groups such as Women Arise
initiative, DAKADA group from Akwa Ibom, Akwa Ibom State Liaison office
in Lagos, and the State’s Special Assistant to the Governor on Legal
matters, Mr. Andem Ndem were seen at the court.
The Akwa Ibom Ccommunity in Lagos carried placards at the entrance of
the court such as: “Stop police brutality,” “Justice for Idonseit” and
“We demand Justice for Idonseit.” Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, President,
Women Arise Initiative, asked for speedy prosecution of the accused. She
also asked for compensation to be given to the family of the deceased,
including health insurance and scholarship grants for the late woman’s
kids.
