Aged man fined for indiscriminate defecation

An 83-year-old man, Saliu Oteniya, will spend the next nine months in prison with hard labour for defecating indiscriminately on his premises in Ondo in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

He was, however, given an option of fine of N15,000. Pa Oteniya was among 16 landlords in the community sentenced to nine months imprisonment for violating different environmental offences.
The prosecutors, Elizabeth Akinfemisoye and Adejoke Olanrewaju, said the octogenarian, who is the landlord of a residential building located at No 23 Lokun Street in the community, was summoned to the court for defecating in and around his premises, the offense which the health officers said, was capable of coursing outbreak of disease in the area.
The landlords were also accused of failing to provide sanitary dustbins and latrine in their places of domicile, since the existing ones are filled up and liable to cause disease outbreak in and around the places.
