A couple was among some suspected human traffickers arrested in Delta
State for trafficking pregnant girls and babies.
The police said that
Mrs. Nkiru Asouza and her husband, Chidiebele Udeagbala were arrested
before operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) stormed their
hideouts in Akwa-Ibom State and arrested others.
Those arrested are Ekaete Sunday, Etieno Mary Bassey, Stella John and
Esther Ezekiel. The suspects led police to Onitsha, Anambra State where
another prime suspect, Mary Bassey Okon was arrested.
The two pregnant girls, Nancy Atume and Chidimma Johnson, both 18 and
two trafficked babies were rescued unhurt from the Akwa-Ibom syndicate.
Four babies were rescued in Onitsha hideouts. One of the pregnant
girls, Chidimma, and six babies, between ages 1-5 were handed over to
the Roman Catholic Reverend Sisters whose orphanage was registered under
the State’s Ministry of Women Affairs and Community Development. Nancy
was handed over to her parents.
