Five persons killed as cultists carry out reprisal attack

Five persons have been killed at different areas of Igbo-elerin, Badagry area of Lagos State by suspected cult members.

Eye witnesses said that the five persons were killed and several others wounded after some cult members in the area embarked on a reprisal attack.

It was gathered the gangs allegedly went on the rampage after the leader of a rival gang was. The slain leader, simply identified as Skay, was shot at Aladesanmi Street, on Thursday at about 8pm.

Fuming over the murder of their leader, the members on Friday, at about 7am, stormed a house located at Martins Street.

They dragged out a rival gang member and slaughtered him like a ram in front of his home. They moved on towards Idowu Street, where they searched for more rival gang members. By night time, they raided relaxation centres, continuing with the search they started in the morning.
A food sell, Iya Aina, residing at Martins Street, described the cultists’ action as ‘terrifying.’
She said: “On Friday morning the hoodlums killed a boy in that compound. The father of the dead boy
has poultry.”
Another resident in Idowu Street, Oladapo
Sanni, said: "Trouble started at about 8pm on
Thursday after I closed my shop. I noticed that everywhere was deserted. There were
no commercial buses or motorbikes plying the road. On Friday morning, I heard that the leader of a cult gang had been killed. On Friday, the boys came and started shooting sporadically. People scampered in different directions.”

A landlord in the area said that the killings continue because the cultists were jobless.

He added: “We know some of these boys causing
trouble in the area! We can't give information to the police because after they are released, they would come after us. Some of these cultists are children of police officers. The police officers are aware of the cultist activities in Igbo-elerin, but you’ll only see
policemen in the area after the cultist have succeeded in killing people. Since Thursday night, residents have been living in fear.”
The Lagos State Police Command spokesman, DSP Joe
Offor, when contacted on the matter, said he would call back, but he didn’t as at press time.
