Mrs. Kafilat Kareem, wife of one of the victims of Saturday’s boat
accident at Ijede, Ikorodu in Ijede Local Council Development Area of
Lagos State, claimed that her husband knew he was going to die.
The
widow, who spoke at her resident at Etitin Quarters, explained that on
the fateful day, her husband acted strangely.
She said: “On that Saturday, he assisted his children to fetch water;
this was unusual. He joked with every one of us before bidding us
goodbye.” Witnesses later told the family of the late Lateef Kareem that
he got down from the boat three times, insisting he wasn’t going again
because he was already late, but was called back by a boat operator.
Moments later, the boat capsized. Kafilat said: “I was preparing the
children’s meal when someone called me on the phone that the boat that
conveyed my husband and other passengers going to Ajah had capsized.
Immediately, some of his friends and I rushed to the scene.
