Different national dailies, valued over a million naira, were
yesterday either vandalised and others seized by operatives of Kick
Against Indiscipline (KAI), at Ikeja, under- bridge Roundabout.
The
vendors, who lamented over their losses, alleged that the KAI men
swooped on them and their wares because they refused to give them money.
The coordinator of the Ikeja Newspaper Vendors Association, Mr.
Emmanuel Edede said he and other vendors arrived at their usual selling
point yesterday morning, only to see KAI operatives. The KAI officials
vandalised and seized their newspapers and magazines.Edede said: “They
said we should vacate the walkways or pay them in order to sell our
newspapers at our newsstands.
We refused this demand of payment and the disagreement which ensured
led to this vandalism.” Another vendor, Mr. Orji said that all the
newspapers and magazines on his stand, valued over N500, 000 were carted
away by KAI the officials. He cried: “I don’t know our offence in
selling newspapers! We have not caused any pedestrian or traffic
obstruction.
