109 arrested for crossing Ikorodu Road

About 109 people have been arrested for crossing the expressway at Ketu bus stop on Ikorodu Road, Lagos, instead of using the pedestrian bridge.

They were arrested by policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Task Force and Officials of Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI).
This followed a directive from the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, that police should prevent loss of lives on the highways and ensure that people make use of the footbridges.
Those arrested are 102 males and seven females The Commander, RRS, Olatunji Disu, said: “We can’t fold our arms seeing lives being lost for not using the bridges. The state government wants a safer Lagos. The operation would be a continuous one.
“The refusal of people to use the pedestrian bridge hinders the free-flow of traffic on our highways especially in some areas like Ikorodu Road and Mile 2. If traffic is allowed to flow freely, the menace of in-traffic robbery cases will become a thing of the past.”
