Ogun to demolish Shonekan’s house, NUJ secretariat

The Abeokuta residence of former Head of the Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, will soon be demolished to pave the way for road construction being proposed by the Ogun State government. 

 Also, the nearby state Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), popularly known as Iwe Irohin Press Centre, as well as the Mopol 16 base of Nigeria Police Force, Zone II headquarters located in Oke- Ilewo, Abeokuta will be affected by the demolition.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun disclosed this during an inspection visit to the NUJ Secretariat in preparation for the construction of multi-million naira shopping mall in Oke- Ilewo area of the state capital, on Friday. 
Amosun, however, said a new befitting secretariat would be constructed for NUJ at its permanent site on MKO Abiola Way before the demolition of the present one, which is opposite the proposed mall. 
The governor explained that the demolition became inevitable in view of the road construction and urban renewal of the government.
